AAA has reacted to calls in the building industry for a return of Clerks of Works services to supervise quality assurance of building contractor’s works on and off site.

This demand has been brought about by an evident lack of skill, knowledge and experience in building related trade practice, together with independent peer reviewing of professional design and specifications.

It has been perceived that failure is often caused by self interest, or conflict of interest when subjected to market pressure.
Despite the existence of the NZ Building Act, greater awareness of the benefits of quality assurance, and more stringent local authority requirements, it is thought, in some circles, that not too much has really changed in respect to quality of building work over the last 15 years.

In summary, reliance on self certification may not always be appropriate or cost effective.
